Description
  • Brocchinia hechtioides is one of three known species of bromeliad considered carnivorous
  • Like its close relative Brocchinia reducta, B. hechtioides forms a pitcher-like structure called a "tank" that collects rainwater. The leaves are coated with a silver-gray powder that makes the leaf surface very slippery. As insects walk across the leaves, they fall into the reservoir of water below and drown. The plant then produces enzymes to absorb nutrients from the dead insect
  • This species is much slower to form pups and develops a looser tank than B. reducta
  • Plants are sold bareroot, as per customs regulations
