Pinguicula moctezumae

I have recieved the plant in good condition, much bigger than I originally expected. In the past seven days I have had it, it produced two new carnivores leaves, although they're still small and sitting in the growing point. I have moved it a couple of times trying to find the optimal position. I would definetly recomend saving up to buy one since they are a bit pricey. But seeing this one cath the nats and other pests haunting your kitchen.

Description

Muggie magnet

Plant Description
  • Species: Pinguicula
  • Pinguicula Moctezumae is a mexican butterwort species with long, skinny, blade-like leaves.  This species prefers temperatures on the warmer side and produces large, pink to light purple flowers year round if conditions are favourable
  • The surfaces of the leaves and flower stems are covered with droplets of a glistening, adhesive substance giving them a velvety look and buttery feel - hence the name butterwort. Insects become stuck to these surfaces, and are then digested by the plant's enzymes
  • Even though a single carnivorous plant may not alleviate an insect infestation, butterworts are certainly capable in fending for themselves with regards to food.  Butterworts specialise in catching gnats, fruit-flies, "muggies", the occasional fly and other small insects for nutrition
  • Mexican butterworts are fantastic candidates for a sunny windowsill and very popular amongst succulent fans and indoor plant growers.  As they are easy to grow, these are excellent plants for beginner carnivorous plant enthusiasts
  • Bite-size info:
    • 🏡 Indoors (sunny windowsill/artificial lighting). Semi-shade outdoors
    • 📅 Active growing season: *December to May
    • 🌱Flowering size: 5cm+
    • 🏆Recommended for: All levels carnivorous plant enthusiasts

THE OPTIONS

Sizes
  • Whether you prefer starting off with a younger plant and watching it grow over the years into full majestic glory or jumping in with more munch, right from the get go, we've got you covered! Cultivo is all about choices and our plants are available in various sizes and options to suit your every need
  • These are medium to near-flowering size plants with very shallow roots and fragile leaves.  For this reason they will be sent bareroot, packed and protected to minimise damage during transit.  The size on offer refers to the maximum size your plant will reach during the upcoming growing season

Bareroot (not potted) with or without soil
  • Due to it's fragile nature and shallow root system, mexican butterworts are best shipped bareroot (not potted) and will need a certain degree of acclimatisation after potting on your end.  Plants and winter rosettes are cleaned, cut back, rinsed and sent in protective covering to minimise damage
  • To prevent rot, pinguicula prefers a loose, open soil with a good balance between water retention and drainage.  Select the relevant option or pick up some of our deluxe premixed growing media for mexican butterworts here before checking out
  • On occasion, plants are available in potted form, however in most cases your plant will be sent bareroot with soil separately - This will be indicated in the listing

Currently available
  • This guideline is provided as reference and is indicative of the current state or condition of the plant you will receive
  • During winter dormancy, most mexican butterworts produce tight, dormant rosettes with tiny non-carnivorous leaves, making them appear very small overall.  During this time they will be listed as "winter rosettes"
  • If your are new to the carnivorous plant world >> Read our guideline on Temperate plants and winter dormancy:  What to expect so there are no surprises when ordering mexican butterworts from us during the colder months
