- At Cultivo, every release is carefully selected and grown with purpose. We don’t mass restock - most plants are small-batch, seasonal or one-of-a-kind “exact plant pictured” pieces. Once they’re sold, they’re truly gone. That’s why you won’t see a typical “email me when available” option on these listings
- Some seasonal items or small-batch variants may return in the future. If that happens, we’ll update the original listing with new photos and details

🌸 Pinguicula ehlersiae – Rare Miniature Mexican Butterwort (Exact BCP Import)
This tiny pink rosette may look delicate, but don’t be fooled — Pinguicula ehlersiae is a hardy Mexican butterwort from Mexico that’s both functional and fabulous. It adds a splash of succulent charm to any terrarium or indoor setup and quietly catches little bugs along the way.
This plant is personally imported from Best Carnivorous Plants (BCP) in the Czech Republic. Fully grown and flowering-size, this is a once-off collector’s item and you'll receive the exact plant shown. Due to its shallow roots and fragile leaves, this plant ships bareroot and is ready to pot or mount on arrival.
🌱 What Makes This Butterwort So Special?
- ✔ Rare BCP import – with location data (west of Tolantongo, Hidalgo)
- ✔ Miniature rosettes – only 3–4cm across at full size
- ✔ Pretty pink flowers – blooms appear at the end of winter and continue through summer
- ✔ Safe to leave the flowers – they don’t drain energy like with other carnivorous plants
- ✔ Terrarium & collector favourite – warm, semi-shaded conditions with dry-ish soil
- ✔ Orchid and succulent friendly – thrives in the same growing conditions
- ✔ Great for Pings on Rocks! Join our workshop to learn how to mount yours beautifully
🧠 How Do Butterworts Work?
Even though they look like little succulents, Pinguicula ehlersiae is a true carnivorous plant. The leaves glisten with sticky mucilage that traps small flying insects — especially muggies and fungus gnats that are drawn to the light in terrariums.
Once caught, the plant slowly digests its prey and absorbs nutrients through the leaf surface. While they’re not a standalone pest control solution, they’re definitely satisfying to watch in action — and offer a clever, natural bonus in mixed setups.
📦 How It Ships
- 🌱 Bareroot – carefully packed with roots protected, ships without soil
- 🪴 Recommended mix: Butterwort PROmix™ or sphagnum moss for terrariums, trays or rock mounting
- 📸 Exact plant pictured – only one available
🕗 What to Expect in Winter?
Like many Mexican butterworts, Pinguicula ehlersiae forms a tiny resting rosette in winter with non-carnivorous leaves. During this time, it still flowers freely — most plants begin blooming in late winter and continue through the warm season.
