Utricularia longifolia (Serra do Almas, Brazil) is a robust, large-flowered terrestrial bladderwort native to South America. This specific form was collected from Serra do Almas in Brazil and is not currently available anywhere else in South Africa. It is a rare opportunity for collectors to acquire a location-documented specimen from our original BCP import.
This species is one of the largest in the genus, with long, strap-like leaves and tall upright flower stalks. When mature, it produces bold violet-purple blooms that resemble miniature orchids — and in stable conditions, it can bloom freely during the warmer months.
Despite its size and dramatic flowers, Utricularia longifolia is surprisingly easy to grow and thrives in humid environments with consistent moisture. It’s an excellent choice for terrariums, large moss trays, or carnivorous plant bog setups with space to spread.
You’ll receive a healthy, rooted 2cm plug of this location-specific form, fully grown out and acclimatised at Cultivo.
🪴 Growing Tips & Care Info
- 🔆 Bright filtered light or semi-shade
- 🌿 Great for moss trays, terrariums, or deep bog-style containers
- 🪴 Use Bladderwort PROmix™ or moist, shredded sphagnum moss
- 💧 Keep consistently moist – never let it dry out
- 💦 Use the tray method with 0.5–1cm rain, RO, or distilled water
With time, this plant will spread and send up flower spikes. The blooms are long-lasting and appear seasonally when the plant is well-established.
🌸 Flowering Info
Utricularia longifolia produces striking violet flowers on tall stalks — often up to 15–30cm in height. Flowers typically appear in spring and summer and are among the largest in the genus.
This plant was personally imported from Best Carnivorous Plants (BCP) and grown out at Cultivo. It’s the Serra do Almas locality form and is fully acclimatised for South African conditions.
Bladderworts with documented location data are rarely available in South Africa. This is a special release and a true collector’s specimen.
