Exceptional Service

I received my order faster than expected.
I bought the two plants as a late christ gift for my fiancée as he wanted a Venus fly trap so badly and I stumbled across the page while browsing Facebook . The plants are currently in an aquarium and doing really well. His already talking about expanding and and making a carnivorous plant habitation.

🌿 Cape Sundew (Drosera capensis) – South Africa’s Sticky Bug-Catcher

If you’ve ever wanted to try a carnivorous plant but weren’t sure where to start – this is the one. The Cape sundew (Drosera capensis) is fun, colourful and unbelievably easy to grow. It’s native to our very own South Africa, so it feels right at home here – no home-made jungles or fancy setups needed - only good light and clean, pure water.

Each leaf glistens with sticky, jewel-like dew that sparkles in the sun and traps little bugs all by itself.  There's no need to feed or fertlise – it literally feeds itself. It’s one of those plants that’ll make you stop and say, “No ways… is this for real?!”

And here’s the best part – All of our plants are locally grown and fully adjusted to our climate so it’s ready to grow from day one - no matter where you are in SA! This Beginner-range plant also come pre-planted in a colourful DECO planter with our long-term carnivorous plant soil mix u - so don't have to repot it until next August – just carefully unwrap, top up the tray with water and enjoy. It honestly doesn’t get easier (or prettier) than this!

Oh, and because it’s Cultivo, you’ll also get a detailed South African care guide and free after-sales support whenever you need help or advice.

🌿 Highlights

  • Native & proud – Straight from South Africa’s Cape region – hardy, colourful and fully adapted to our local conditions.
  • How it works – Each leaf is covered in sparkling dew that attracts and traps insects. Once a bug lands, the leaf curls in and digests it… slow-motion magic!
  • Bright light = more sparkle – The more sun it gets, the redder and more compact it grows. Those ruby tones are unreal in person.
  • All-year grower – No dormancy (winter rest) needed. In fact, it often grows even better when it’s cooler – especially in areas where its very hot in summer.
  • Perfect for beginners – Super forgiving and fast-growing. If you’ve kept a succulent alive, you’ve got this. Promise!
  • Sizes available – Choose your perfect fit:
Starter (3+ years old, 4–6 cm)
Medium (4+ years old, 7–9 cm)
    Large (5+ years old, 10 cm+)
  • Format – Pre-planted in our deluxe long-term carnivorous plant soil mix inside a colourful DECO planter with clip-on tray. Just keep the tray topped up with rain or RO water and you’re set – no repotting until next August.
  • Bonus – Includes our full care guide, Alive Arrival Guarantee and ongoing support from your local carnivorous plant experts right here in South Africa.

This little show-off is guaranteed to steal the spotlight. Between the glittering dew, curling leaves and bug-catching action, it’s impossible not to smile every time you walk past. Bright, sticky and full of personality – the Cape sundew is proof that growing carnivorous plants really can be that easy.

Quick FAQ

Can I grow it outside?
Absolutely! Cape sundews love sunshine and damp conditions – perfect for outdoor bog gardens, balcony planters or any sunny spot that stays moist. The more sun, the more sparkle!

Does it really catch bugs on its own?
Yes – 100%! The dew does all the work. Just keep it in bright light and clean water, and it’ll stay sticky and gorgeous all year long.

Why is my Cape Sundew growing a woody stem?
Completely normal! As it grows, the older leaves dry off while new ones form at the top – leaving a cute little “woody trunk.” Totally part of the charm.

Quick FAQ

Why Pargo and not PUDO?

We partner with Pargo because it’s part of our approved fragile-goods courier network. Parcels are kept indoors at local shops and businesses, protected from heat, sunlight and weather until collection — ideal if you prefer to collect at your convenience or aren’t home during the day.

Disclaimer
  • Just a quick heads-up: Since plants are natural products, you might notice some slight variations when unboxing your plants
  • We do our best to make sure the plants you receive look like the ones in the photos, but keep in mind that seasons change and plants grow. Some leaves might age and die off, new ones might sprout and the plants may look a bit different over time
  • Cultivo is a boutique-style store and 99% of what we sell are one-of-a-kind collector items, so you will receive the exact plant pictured. Some are once-off or limited releases, which means they are available only while stocks last. The labels are spot on, so even if the plant looks a bit different, we 100% guarantee it’s the real deal
  • Also, all the photos you see are of our own plants unless we mention otherwise. We update images occasionally to keep things fresh. If you want to see updated pictures before you buy, just let us know - we’re happy to help!
