Purple Pitcher Plant (Sarracenia purpurea) for Beginners
The Purple Pitcher Plant is a striking addition to any carnivorous plant collection, known for its deep red pitchers that capture insects. It is easy to grow and fascinating to watch as it fills its pitchers with rainwater to drown and digest its prey
The Purple Pitcher Plants in our beginner range are at least 3 years old (4-6cm in summer) and available in two sizes, already potted in our deluxe carnivorous plant soil mix for terrestrial pitcher plants
Note that Purple Pitchers are summer-growing plants, which means they need a winter rest period to store enough energy for the next growing season. During the colder months, they do not grow actively. Dead plant material is removed prior to shipping, and plants are sent as clean, dormant winter bulbs with tiny traps, cut pitchers, or little growth visible above the soil, ready for the upcoming growing season. Plants will regrow from the rootstock, rhizome, or underground bulb in springtime
