Cultivo's Grow Your Own Sundews - Seed Starter Kit™ • Rosetted Collection brings together everything you need to sow and grow a fascinating collection of rosette-forming sundews from scratch, using the same basic techniques we use to raise our own seed-grown plants.

Each kit contains a changing selection of freshly harvested tropical and subtropical rosette-forming sundew seeds from our cultivated collection. As your seedlings mature, different colours, sizes and growth habits may begin to emerge, from compact flat rosettes to more upright forms.

Best of all, the seeds selected for this collection don't require cold stratification, making this a great place to start if you're new to growing carnivorous plants from seed.

We grow a wide variety of sundews at Cultivo, and the fresh seed available from our cultivated collection changes according to which plants are flowering, successfully pollinated and producing suitable seed. Rather than limiting this kit to one named species or form, we select from the fresh rosette-forming sundew seed available at the time of preparing each collection.

Your seedlings may develop different colours, sizes and rosette growth habits, from compact flat-growing plants to more upright forms. Part of the experience is watching those differences gradually reveal themselves as your sundews grow.

Our seed batches are kept labelled and germination-tested in-house before suitable seed is used in our Grow Your Own kits. As with growing any plant from seed, individual germination results can vary according to the seed and growing conditions provided.

What to Expect When Growing Rosetted Sundews from Seed

The seedlings start incredibly small, but that's part of the experience. Over time you'll watch tiny leaves develop their first glistening dew-covered tentacles and gradually begin to reveal their different colours, shapes and rosette forms.

How many seeds are included?

Each Rosetted Collection kit contains at least 25 freshly harvested sundew seeds, giving you multiple opportunities for successful germination and the chance to discover variation between your seedlings. Seed size and the exact selection may vary between harvests.

Will every sundew seed germinate?

Not necessarily - and that's completely normal when growing any plant from seed. Individual seeds can behave differently even within the same fresh batch. We include at least 25 fresh seeds to give you multiple opportunities for successful germination, rather than expecting every seed to become a plant.

At Cultivo, we carefully harvest and store our sundew seeds and germination-test suitable seed batches before using them in our Grow Your Own kits. Fresh, viable seed is an important part of successful germination, but the conditions provided after sowing also play an important role.

Which sundews will I receive?

Seeds are selected from the tropical and subtropical rosette-forming sundews producing suitable fresh seed in our cultivated collection at the time of preparing each batch. The selection changes, so no particular species, form, colour or growth habit is guaranteed.

Part of the fun is discovering how your individual seedlings develop as they mature, and the number of different forms that ultimately germinate and grow can vary from kit to kit.

Are the seeds fresh and germination tested?

Yes. We harvest and keep our seed batches labelled at Cultivo and germination-test suitable seed batches in-house. Only suitable fresh seed is selected for our Grow Your Own kits.

Do these sundew seeds need cold stratification?

No. The seeds selected for the Rosetted Collection don't require cold stratification. Follow the instructions supplied with your kit and sow them straight away.

Why is purified water included?

Carnivorous plants are sensitive to excessive minerals in water. We include purified, low-mineral water so you have suitable water on hand when you sow your seeds and can get started straight away.

What is special about the included germination soil?

The included germination mix is prepared specifically for carnivorous plant seed, with the low nutrient levels, moisture retention and aeration needed for successful seed starting. It's pre-measured and ready to use.

Can I grow these sundews indoors?

Yes, provided they receive very bright light. A suitable grow light or a bright sunny position can work well. Strong, consistent light helps support germination and healthy early seedling growth. Keep the growing medium consistently moist using suitable low-mineral water and follow the growing instructions included with your kit.

Parcels are stored indoors at local businesses, protected from heat, direct sunlight and the weather until collection. It's an excellent option if you're not home during the day or prefer collecting your parcel when it's convenient.
