Grow it like a Pro!
Now available is a special XXL specimen of Pinguicula Gigantea × Moctezumae — one of our original imports, now fully grown and flowering. At ±20–25cm across, this giant-leaved beauty is part of our own breeding stock and offered here as a once-off collector’s item.
The plant you see in the photos is the exact one you’ll receive — fully established, in flower at the time of listing (though the bloom may not last until delivery). With its strong growth, large symmetrical rosette, and bold presence, this plant is ideal for anyone looking to level up their collection.
🌱 Carefully grown out and acclimatised at Cultivo from our original Christian Klein import, this plant is shipped bareroot with roots protected — prepped for easy transplanting and a quick recovery in its new home.
🪴 Plant Personality
- Hybrid: Pinguicula Gigantea × Moctezumae – a cross between the giant, oval-leaved gigantea (up to 30cm!) and the elegant, thin-leaved moctezumae
- Growth Style: Rosette-forming carnivorous plant with succulent-like leaves
- Flowers: Soft pink blooms appear from late winter and continue through the growing season
- Best Spot: Indoor windowsills, terrariums, paludariums, and semi-shade outdoor areas
🌿 Size & Growth
- Plant Size: Approximately 20–25cm leafspan (XXL Mature Specimen)
- Growth Season: Active from late spring through summer
- Dormancy: Growth slows in winter and the leaves become smaller — but thanks to its gigantea parent, this hybrid stays leafy and does not form the tight succulent rosette typical of most Mexican butterworts
📦 How It Ships
- Shipping Method: Bareroot (not potted), roots wrapped in moist paper
- Optional Add-on: Add Butterwort PROmix™ soil for perfect drainage and airflow
☀️ Care Summary
- 💡 Bright light – ideal for sunny windowsills, terrariums, or under grow lights
- 💧 Use only rain, distilled, or RO water
- 🪴 Plant in well-aerated, nutrient-free carnivorous plant soil
- ❄️ Leaves remain visible in winter – no tight dormancy rosette
- 🪰 No feeding required – it catches its own snacks!
- 🌿 Great for collectors, breeders, and serious enthusiasts
Personally imported and grown out at Cultivo, this plant is fully acclimatised to South African conditions — making it easier to settle in, more resilient, and quicker to grow once it reaches you.
Due to import restrictions, Mexican butterworts remain uncommon in South African collections. These plants come from our original imported stock — grown out slowly for size, strength, and symmetry. While we may offer more in future, mature plants like these are limited and not always available — especially at this size and quality.
📦 Quick FAQ
Will it arrive in flower?
This plant is in flower at the time of listing, but blooms are seasonal and delicate — we can't guarantee it will still be in bloom when it arrives. Either way, you’ll receive the exact plant shown.

Quick FAQ
Why Pargo and not PUDO?
We partner with Pargo because it’s part of our approved fragile-goods courier network. Parcels are kept indoors at local shops and businesses, protected from heat, sunlight and weather until collection — ideal if you prefer to collect at your convenience or aren’t home during the day.
To keep every order safe and uphold our Arrive-Alive Guarantee, we deliver only via Pargo and other approved delivery services trusted for handling fragile and temperature-sensitive items.
- Just a quick heads-up: Since plants are natural products, you might notice some slight variations when unboxing your plants
- We do our best to make sure the plants you receive look like the ones in the photos, but keep in mind that seasons change and plants grow. Some leaves might age and die off, new ones might sprout and the plants may look a bit different over time
- Cultivo is a boutique-style store and 99% of what we sell are one-of-a-kind collector items, so you will receive the exact plant pictured. Some are once-off or limited releases, which means they are available only while stocks last. The labels are spot on, so even if the plant looks a bit different, we 100% guarantee it’s the real deal
- Also, all the photos you see are of our own plants unless we mention otherwise. We update images occasionally to keep things fresh. If you want to see updated pictures before you buy, just let us know - we’re happy to help!
