Quick FAQ 🌿
-
How many seeds are in a packet?
Each pack contains 5–20 seeds, depending on the species. -
Will I get the same species each time?
Not always — each kit includes a random mix of either sticky sundews or Venus Flytrap varieties, chosen for being easy to grow, rewarding, and perfect for beginners. -
How do you decide which seeds go into each kit?
We hand-select what’s freshly harvested, in stock, and germination tested at the time of packing — giving you the best possible chance of success. -
Why can’t I mix all species together?
Different carnivorous plants have different germination needs — for example, trumpet pitchers need cold stratification, while sundews don’t. Each kit is tailored to its species for reliable results. -
How long does it take to grow?
It depends on the species. Some seeds, like sundews and Venus Flytraps, may start germinating within 4–6 weeks in optimal conditions. Others, such as Albany Pitchers and certain trumpet pitcher species, need to experience a “cheat winter” period first — fully explained in your included instruction guide.
💡 Want to speed things up? Follow the step-by-step tips in your kit on using gentle warmth and grow lights to encourage faster germination and steady growth. -
Why are some kits sold out — are they available all year?
The short answer — getting our hands on quality carnivorous plant seeds in South Africa is not quite like picking up a packet of basil seeds from the local nursery 😉 Carnivorous plants are slow-growing and rare, taking several years to reach maturity — and only mature plants produce the flowers needed to hand-pollinate and collect fresh seed.
Around 99% of carnivorous plant species aren’t native to South Africa, so we rely on private collectors and specialist growers — both locally and abroad — who share our commitment to ethical and sustainable propagation. Every batch we offer is responsibly produced and never taken from the wild.
Because of this, availability is seasonal and limited. We only list seed kits when fresh, germination-tested seed is truly available — giving you the highest quality, best possible germination rate, and peace of mind that your plants are grown, not taken.
