Cultivo's Mixed Nepenthes — Hand-Selected Tropical Pitcher Plants
Not every great plant needs a label. These are unlabelled Nepenthes (NOIDs) — hand-selected from our own greenhouse for vigour, health and adaptability to South African conditions. They won't come with a species tag, but they will come ready to grow, pitcher and impress.
Think of it as a collector's lucky packet: you choose the size, we choose the plant. Every one is a genuine, easy growing, tropical pitcher plant with real growing potential.
What's in the mix
These plants are seed-grown originals, rooted cuttings, or tissue culture selections - all 3+ years old and grown on in our own greenhouse. Parentage includes (but is not limited to):
- Nepenthes alata, ventricosa, burkei, spectabilis, maxima, spathulata, talangensis, hirsuta, thorelli, × rokko and boschiana
- Species, hybrids, and everything in between - all vigorous, all colourful, all proven growers
- No specific ID can be attached, but every plant has been individually assessed before listing
Choose your size
Plants are measured by leafspan - tip to tip across the two largest leaves, not including tendrils or pitchers. Pick the size that suits your space and budget:
- Starter (3–5 cm) — young plant, long journey ahead; ideal if you want to watch it grow
- Medium (7–10 cm) — established and actively growing; a solid starting point
- Large (12–16 cm) — well-developed plant with pitchers present or developing
- X-Large (18–22 cm) — impressive specimen; makes an immediate statement
Shipped bareroot - the collector's way
Ships bareroot in moist sphagnum - arrives healthy, roots intact, ready to pot into your own mix exactly the way you want it. Bareroot shipping reduces transit stress, keeps the root zone healthy and gives you full control over substrate and setup from day one. It's the method trusted by serious growers worldwide.

Growing notes
These are easy intermediate growers - adaptable, forgiving and well-suited to a wide range of SA conditions. Bright indirect light, good airflow and temperatures of 18–30°C suit them well. No winter dormancy required - they grow actively year-round, though growth slows in cooler months.
Perfect for a bright north-facing windowsill, open terrarium, or sheltered porch with morning sun.
Quick FAQ
Will I know what species I'm getting?
No - these are unlabelled plants (NOIDs). You choose the size; we hand-select the plant. What we can guarantee is that it's a vigorous, healthy, fully acclimatised tropical pitcher plant with good growing potential.
Are these beginner-friendly?
Yes - this is one of the best entry points into Nepenthes growing. The mix is specifically chosen for adaptability and ease, and every plant has been grown and acclimatised in our own SA greenhouse.
What does bareroot mean?
Your plant is shipped without a pot or soil. The roots are wrapped in moist sphagnum moss to keep them hydrated during transit. You can plant it straight into your own pot, terrarium, or preferred setup when it arrives.
Do they go dormant in winter?
No - tropical pitcher plants don't go fully dormant. Growth slows in cooler months and pitchers may die back, but the plant stays active. New growth resumes strongly in spring.
How is size measured?
By leafspan — tip to tip across the two largest leaves, not including tendrils or pitchers. This is the standard measurement used in the Nepenthes collector community.

Frequently Asked Question
Why do you use Pargo instead of PUDO?
We partner with Pargo because it forms part of our approved fragile-goods courier network. Parcels are stored indoors at local businesses, protected from heat, direct sunlight and the weather until collection. It's an excellent option if you're not home during the day or prefer collecting your parcel when it's convenient.
To protect every order and uphold our Arrive-Alive Guarantee, we use only Pargo and other approved delivery services trusted to transport fragile and temperature-sensitive plants safely.
- Just a quick heads-up: Since plants are natural products, you might notice some slight variations when unboxing your plants
- We do our best to make sure the plants you receive look like the ones in the photos, but keep in mind that seasons change and plants grow. Some leaves might age and die off, new ones might sprout and the plants may look a bit different over time
- Cultivo is a boutique-style store and 99% of what we sell are one-of-a-kind collector items, so you will receive the exact plant pictured. Some are once-off or limited releases, which means they are available only while stocks last. The labels are spot on, so even if the plant looks a bit different, we 100% guarantee it’s the real deal
- Also, all the photos you see are of our own plants unless we mention otherwise. We update images occasionally to keep things fresh. If you want to see updated pictures before you buy, just let us know - we’re happy to help!
