- At Cultivo, every release is carefully selected and grown with purpose. We don’t mass restock - most plants are small-batch, seasonal or one-of-a-kind “exact plant pictured” pieces. Once they’re sold, they’re truly gone. That’s why you won’t see a typical “email me when available” option on these listings
- Some seasonal items or small-batch variants may return in the future. If that happens, we’ll update the original listing with new photos and details

Utricularia blanchetii is a small terrestrial bladderwort from the Chapada Diamantina region of Bahia (Lencois, Brazil), and it’s one of the most charming species in the genus. This rare carnivorous plant is a slow spreader, forming mossy carpets of tiny leaves — and in spring or summer, it puts out delicate pink to lilac flowers that hover like little fairy blooms above the soil.
This special import comes directly from Best Carnivorous Plants in the Czech Republic — an original collector plug now available in South Africa through Cultivo. You’ll receive a healthy 2cm plug, ready to pot up into your own container.
🌱 How Bladderworts Work
Unlike Venus flytraps or sundews, terrestrial Utricularia have underground traps. These tiny bladder-like structures suck in microscopic prey like protozoa and nematodes from the wet soil — they’re some of the fastest carnivorous traps in the plant world!
🪴 Growing Tips & Care Info
- 🔆 Grow in semi-shade or very bright light in a sheltered spot
- 🌿 Ideal for carnivorous plant bog setups or as a standalone plant
- 🪴 Use our Bladderwort PROmix™ or finely shredded, moist long-fibre sphagnum moss
- 💧 Always keep the soil moist – never let it dry out
- 💦 Use the tray method: stand the pot in 0.5–1cm of water (rain, RO, or distilled preferred)
- 🚿 Top watering is also fine — just avoid letting the soil dry
In the right conditions, your plant will start to spread and fill the container over the next few months. It’s a patient grower — but very rewarding!
🌸 Flowering Info
Utricularia blanchetii typically blooms during spring and summer. The flowers don’t drain the plant’s energy the way they do in flytraps or sundews, so feel free to let it flower — it’s part of the magic!
Personally imported and grown out at Cultivo, this plant is fully acclimatised to South African conditions — making it easier to settle in, more resilient, and quick to take off once established.
Due to strict import regulations, bladderworts are still uncommon in South African collections. This plug comes from our original imported stock — and it's rarely available at this size and quality.
