- At Cultivo, every release is carefully selected and grown with purpose. We don’t mass restock - most plants are small-batch, seasonal or one-of-a-kind “exact plant pictured” pieces. Once they’re sold, they’re truly gone. That’s why you won’t see a typical “email me when available” option on these listings
- Some seasonal items or small-batch variants may return in the future. If that happens, we’ll update the original listing with new photos and details

Utricularia livida (Broad Flower, Mexico) is a vigorous terrestrial bladderwort that produces larger-than-usual flowers in soft shades of lilac and violet. Native to Mexico, this form stands out with its wider, more showy blooms compared to typical U. livida varieties.
As a carnivorous plant, Utricularia livida uses tiny underground bladder traps to suck in and digest microscopic organisms. These vacuum-like traps are lightning fast — but the real charm lies above ground, where the plant sends up sprays of delicate, orchid-like blooms during the growing season.
This is an original import from Best Carnivorous Plants (Czech Republic). You'll receive a well-established 2cm plug ready to pot up and grow out in your own carnivorous plant setup.
🪴 Growing Tips & Care Info
- 🔆 Grow in semi-shade or bright, filtered light
- 🌿 Ideal for carnivorous plant bog gardens or as a standalone feature
- 🪴 Use Bladderwort PROmix™ or moist, shredded long-fibre sphagnum moss
- 💧 Keep the soil constantly moist – never allow it to dry out
- 💦 Tray method: stand the pot in 0.5–1cm of rain, RO, or distilled water
With the right care, this species will gradually spread to fill its container and reward you with tall flower stalks and colourful blooms.
🌸 Flowering Info
Utricularia livida typically blooms during the warmer months of spring and summer. This Mexican form produces larger, broader blooms than usual, and can flower freely without weakening the plant.
Personally imported and grown out at Cultivo, this plant is fully acclimatised to South African conditions — making it stronger and easier to grow than freshly imported stock.
Due to strict import restrictions, bladderworts like this remain uncommon in local collections. This is a special release from our original imported stock and is rarely offered at this size and quality.
