Product Details

Utricularia quelchii (Llu Tepui) is a rare and highly sought-after epiphytic bladderwort collected from the summit of Llu Tepui in Venezuela’s Gran Sabana region. Known for its slow but steady growth and striking flowers, this location form is especially prized by collectors for its origin and rarity.

Like other highland Utricularia, U. quelchii grows naturally in cool, misty environments — often nestled among moss, bromeliads, and epiphytic orchid roots. It produces small, leathery leaves and can eventually send up tall stalks bearing exotic magenta-pink flowers that resemble tiny orchids or aliens in bloom.

This plug comes from our original BCP import and was grown out at Cultivo under high-humidity, terrarium-like conditions. You’ll receive a healthy, fully rooted 5cm plug, ready for your specialised growing space.

🪴 Growing Tips & Care Info

  • 🌿 Epiphytic grower – prefers mossy mounts or airy sphagnum-based media
  • 🔆 Bright filtered light – avoid direct sun
  • 💧 High humidity essential – perfect for terrariums or grow cabinets
  • ❄️ Cool to intermediate temperatures (15–23°C preferred)
  • 🪴 Pot into live sphagnum or a loose mix of sphagnum, perlite, and bark

Under the right conditions, this location form will slowly establish and may flower with time — making it a prized specimen for experienced growers and collectors.

🌸 Flowering Info

Utricularia quelchii (Llu Tepui) produces vivid pink to magenta flowers in maturity, often on long wiry stalks. Blooms are seasonal and tend to appear when environmental conditions remain stable for extended periods.

This specimen is part of our original BCP import and originates from the Llu Tepui region of Venezuela. It’s been carefully grown out at Cultivo and is offered in extremely limited numbers.

True location forms of Utricularia quelchii are exceptionally rare in South African collections. This is a once-off opportunity for collectors seeking something special and well-documented.
