Product Details

Pinguicula 'Weser' is a compact hybrid butterwort officially registered in 1998, created from a cross between Pinguicula ehlersiae and P. moranensis. It's one of the most popular Mexican Pinguicula in cultivation — perfect for windowsills, terrariums, and under grow lights.

'Weser' shares the same parentage as 'Sethos' — both are hybrids of Pinguicula ehlersiae × P. moranensis. The main difference lies in the flowers: 'Weser' shows slightly more striping in its soft pink blooms, making it a subtle but distinct cultivar

Originally imported from Christian Klein in Germany, this cultivar has steadily grown in popularity across South Africa — and thanks to our careful growing process, we’re able to offer well-established plants from our own collection

This is a flowering-size plant, fully grown to approximately 8–10cm across, and acclimatised to South African conditions. You’ll receive the exact specimen pictured.

🪷 Plant Personality

  • Species: Pinguicula 'Weser' – a compact hybrid butterwort
  • Growth Style: Flat rosette with sticky leaves that blush pink in strong light
  • Flowers: Soft pink blooms appear once mature
  • Best Spot: Bright windowsills, terrariums, or under grow lights

🌿 Size & Growth

  • Current Size: Approximately 8–10cm across (flowering size)
  • Mature Size: Typically 10cm across under ideal conditions
  • Growth Season: Actively grows spring through summer
  • Dormancy: Forms a tight succulent rosette in winter

🌞 Care Summary

  • 💡 Bright light – ideal for windowsills, terrariums, or under LEDs
  • 💧 Use only rain, distilled, or RO water
  • 🌱 Plant in well-draining, mineral-poor carnivorous plant mix
  • 🌿 Growth slows in winter – forms a tight rosette but remains active
  • 🪰 Feeds on fungus gnats and small flying insects
  • 🌸 Excellent choice for beginners, collectors, and terrarium fans

Personally imported and grown out at Cultivo, this plant is fully acclimatised to South African conditions — making it easier to settle in, more resilient, and quicker to grow once it reaches you.

Due to import restrictions, Mexican butterworts remain uncommon in South African collections. This specimen comes from our original imported stock — and plants like this are rarely offered, especially at this size and quality.

💬 Quick FAQ

How do I get that beautiful dark pink colour?
Lots of bright light! To bring out Weser’s rich pink tones, grow it outdoors in semi-shade or under a full-spectrum LED in a terrarium. The more light it gets, the more vibrant those leaves become
