Product Details

Utricularia 'Allure' is a spectacular epiphytic bladderwort hybrid created by Greg Bourke, combining two of the largest and most iconic species in the genus: Utricularia nelumbifolia × U. reniformis. This cross produces large, rounded leaves with excellent structure — and often visible suction bladders at the base of the plant, a rare and fascinating trait.

This is a true collector’s plant. Rarely seen in cultivation and almost never available in South Africa, Utricularia 'Allure' thrives in warm, humid conditions with bright, filtered light. It performs best as an epiphyte — grown in a loose, airy mix on a mount or in live sphagnum moss with orchid bark and perlite.

While the carnivory takes place below the surface via tiny bladders that trap microscopic prey, the visual appeal lies in its bold leaves and potential for large, orchid-like flowers in maturity.

Great for large terrariums and paludariums, this specimen was personally imported from Christian Klein in Germany and grown out at Cultivo in high-humidity conditions. You'll receive a well-established 5cm plug, fully rooted and ready for transplanting into your own epiphytic setup.

🪴 Growing Tips & Care Info

  • 🌿 Epiphytic grower – ideal for mossy mounts, orchid baskets, or airy mixes
  • 🔆 Bright filtered light – no harsh direct sun
  • 💧 Needs high humidity and consistent warmth (terrarium or cabinet recommended)
  • 🪴 Use live sphagnum moss, or a mix of sphagnum, orchid bark and perlite
  • 🚿 Keep evenly moist at all times – never let it dry out

Given the right conditions, this hybrid will grow into a bold, architectural specimen. Its large leaf size and structural presence make it a standout even before flowering.

🌸 Flowering Info

Utricularia 'Allure' is capable of producing tall flower stalks with large, orchid-like blooms in maturity. As with other epiphytic Utricularia, flowering does not stress the plant and is a welcome bonus under stable conditions.

This plug was personally imported from Christian Klein in Germany and carefully grown out at Cultivo. Fully acclimatised to South African conditions, and released in extremely limited numbers.

Epiphytic Utricularia hybrids like this are almost never offered locally — especially at this size and condition. This is a genuine collector’s item for serious growers.
