This listing features a well-established specimen of Utricularia cornigera × nelumbifolia — a rare epiphytic bladderwort hybrid originally imported from Christian Klein in Germany. This cross is highly prized for its bold, rounded foliage and the potential to produce striking, orchid-like flowers when mature.
This hybrid inherits vigorous, upright growth from U. cornigera and the large structural presence of U. nelumbifolia, making it a truly impressive species in any carnivorous collection. The leaves are broad and architectural, with visible growth nodes — a sign of strong establishment and future flowering potential.
You’ll receive a healthy, rooted 5cm plug — a different plant from our original release, but from the same imported stock. Grown out at Cultivo in high-humidity conditions and fully acclimatised to South African setups.
🪴 Growing Tips & Care Info
- 🌿 Epiphytic grower – best on a mossy mount, orchid bark mix, or live sphagnum
- 🔆 Bright filtered light – avoid harsh direct sun
- 💧 High humidity and consistent moisture are key
- 🪴 Pot into live sphagnum or a mix of sphagnum, orchid bark and perlite
- ❄️ Intermediate to warm temps (18–25°C ideal)
This hybrid grows steadily over time and rewards patient care with stunning foliage — and eventually, elegant floral displays on tall stalks under the right conditions.
🌸 Flowering Info
Utricularia cornigera × nelumbifolia is known to produce large, orchid-like flowers once mature. Flowering is seasonal and often triggered by consistent humidity, lighting, and stable temperatures.
This plug is part of our original import from Christian Klein in Germany and has been carefully grown out at Cultivo. It is fully acclimatised and released only in limited numbers.
Rare epiphytic hybrids like this are seldom offered locally. A must-have for serious carnivorous plant collectors looking for structure and size.
