- At Cultivo, every release is carefully selected and grown with purpose. We don’t mass restock - most plants are small-batch, seasonal or one-of-a-kind “exact plant pictured” pieces. Once they’re sold, they’re truly gone. That’s why you won’t see a typical “email me when available” option on these listings
- Some seasonal items or small-batch variants may return in the future. If that happens, we’ll update the original listing with new photos and details

Collector’s Overview
This exceptional Pinguicula gigantea is a rooted clone originating from Kamil Pásek’s renowned Best Carnivorous Plants (BCP) collection in the Czech Republic. Imported directly and fully acclimised to South African conditions, this plant is strong, established and ready for long-term success in your collection.
As the largest butterwort species in the world, P. gigantea can reach an impressive ±30 cm across, developing broad, glistening leaves that stay carnivorous throughout the year. This makes it one of the most reliable and consistently attractive Pinguicula species — perfect for display on windowsills, in paludariums and in larger terrarium environments.
This clone also produces beautiful purple flowers and carries strong breeding value thanks to its known BCP lineage. Collectors often choose gigantea as a parent plant for hybridising because of its size, vigour, predictable traits and impressive floral genetics. Whether added to a breeding project or kept purely as a display plant, this specimen offers exceptional collector value.
The plant listed is the exact plant you will receive, offered as a once-off Cultivo Exclusive. With a reliable lineage, flower potential and excellent hybridising value, this clone is highly sought-after among serious collectors.
Growing Information
This is an intermediate-growing Pinguicula that thrives in a wide range of setups: a bright north-facing windowsill, a large terrarium or paludarium, or outdoors in bright, semi-shade. Butterworts are naturally forgiving and adapt quickly, making them suitable for both beginner growers and advanced collectors.
Shipping & Potting
Your plant is shipped bare-root for safe transport and easy handling. Simply mount or pot it up using Pinguicula PROmix™ or your preferred well-draining butterwort mix. Plants are carefully wrapped to ensure a safe, healthy arrival.
This is a collector-only release and with just one available, it will not be repeated once sold.
Quick FAQ
Does Pinguicula gigantea go dormant?
No. Unlike many Mexican butterworts, P. gigantea stays carnivorous all year. It may shrink slightly in winter, but it does not form a succulent rosette. This makes it one of the easiest and most consistent Pinguicula species to grow.
